  • Thom Browne, Inc.
  • New York, NY

Job Description

ABOUT US

Thom Browne is widely recognized for challenging and modernizing today’s uniform: the suit. By questioning traditional proportions, Browne’s designs consistently convey a true American sensibility rooted in quality craftsmanship and precise tailoring. We pride ourselves on our core values of respect and collaboration, challenging ourselves to express creativity and continuously innovate. We attract ambitious individuals who operate in unique ways while upholding exceptional craftsmanship and excellence.

THE ROLE

As the Made-to-Measure Tailor for the New York Madison Avenue Atelier, you will be the technical authority behind every garment that leaves the atelier. You will take client measurements according to Thom Browne standards, execute alterations on Made-to-Measure (MTM), Made-to-Order (MTO) and Custom garments, and uphold the highest standards of quality, craftsmanship and client service.

  • Perform all alterations on Made-to-Measure (MTM), Made-to-Order (MTO) and Custom garments, including tailored jackets, trousers, overcoats, shirting, outerwear and other custom pieces, in line with Thom Browne construction, proportion and finishing standards.
  • Conduct client measurements and fittings according to Thom Browne measurement standards; accurately record measurements, posture and figuration notes.
  • Assess each garment during fittings, identify balance, posture and fit corrections, and translate findings into precise alteration or remake instructions.
  • Execute hand and machine tailoring work to bespoke standards, including sleeve and shoulder adjustments, side, back and seat alterations, collar and lapel corrections, trouser rise and leg shaping, and hand-finishing techniques.
  • Advise clients, MTM Specialists and sales teams on technical feasibility within the MTM, MTO and Custom programs, offering solutions that preserve fit, garment integrity and client expectations.
  • Conduct quality control reviews of all incoming MTM, MTO and Custom orders; inspect each garment against the original order and measurement specifications, document deficiencies and coordinate repairs or remakes as required.
  • Deliver an exceptional client experience during fittings; ensure appointments run smoothly, clients are informed throughout the process and every garment leaves the atelier in impeccable condition.
  • Collaborate with the MTM Director, local MTM team, Customer Service and production partners on order status, technical inquiries and production feedback; proactively communicate any risks to delivery timelines.
  • Maintain expert product knowledge, including garment construction techniques, production methods, fabrics, materials, styling and design concepts.
  • Identify recurring fit and quality issues and provide feedback to the local MTM team, retail partners and product teams to support continuous improvement across MTM, MTO and Custom programs.
  • Support trunk shows, client events and appointments at the Madison Avenue Atelier and, when required, other regional locations, conducting measurements and fittings alongside the MTM team.
  • Train and coach retail colleagues on measurement techniques, fit terminology and garment construction to ensure consistency of standards across the store and region.
  • Manage the alterations workflow and workroom operations, prioritizing tasks based on delivery dates and client needs while maintaining tools, machinery and workspace to the highest standards.
  • Handle VIP clients and special-order requests with professionalism and discretion; proactively develop solutions to meet client needs and ensure an exceptional experience.
  • Prepare and maintain reports on alteration volumes, turnaround times and recurring quality issues on a monthly and seasonal basis.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE

  • Minimum 5 years of experience as a tailor within a bespoke, made-to-measure or luxury ready-to-wear environment.
  • Formal tailoring training with demonstrated expertise in hand and machine alterations across jackets, trousers, overcoats, skirts and shirting.
  • Expert knowledge of measurement techniques and the ability to diagnose and correct fit issues.
  • Advanced understanding of garment construction, pattern interpretation, fabric behavior and luxury finishing standards.
  • Comfortable working directly with clients; discreet, service-oriented and diplomatic in both verbal and written communication.
  • Passionate ambassador of the Thom Browne brand and values.
  • Highly organized, self-motivated and detail-oriented, with excellent interpersonal and time-management skills.
  • Professional, confident and comfortable working independently while meeting deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Available to work a retail schedule, including weekends, and support client events and trunk shows as needed.

WHAT WE OFFER YOU

  • The expected base pay range for this position is $90,000 - $110,000 per year. Placement within the range will be determined by experience, skills, technical assessment and other job-related factors.
  • Comprehensive benefits package
  • Company Uniform
  • Diverse and inclusive working environment
